Biography

Dr. Allison Wilson Leggett, EdD serves Pacific Oaks College as an Affiliate Faculty within the School Of Education. In her first semester, she matched 25 teacher candidates to mentor teachers and facilitated and/or re-negotiated several Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with districts across the state of California within a week of the start of the new semester. Further, she was instrumental in updating systems for updating student teaching (600) and intern teaching (600 + 189) hours. A strong teaching practitioner, she teaches Intern and student teaching courses creating innovative ways to engage students through the remote environment. Further, she manages 12 Fieldwork Supervisors, 30 mentor teachers and accesses new inquiries for the fieldwork experiences.

Having served as a secondary science and math teacher, school site and district level administrator, she joined higher education over 25 years ago when she was recruited by college chair impressed by her high school student's work. Outside of Pacific Oaks College, she serves as a Masters Chair, for the Masters of Arts in Education featuring a technology degree in Education; Program Chair, Early Childhood Studies; Program Chair Secondary Education; Program Chair Elementary Education; Program Chair Exceptional Child. Bringing her strong technology background due to her previous NASA career in science, she was the recipient of the first Faculty Distance Teaching and Learning (FTD&L) Digital Learning grant for her innovative redesign of early childhood curriculum with digital literacy. Further, she is a member of PEACH (Partnerships for Education, Articulation, and Coordination through Higher Education), a collaborative group of educators whose mission is to strengthen and support academic professional development pathways and related educational programs for the early childhood (EC) workforce throughout California in order to support children's learning, growth, and family engagement.

Prior to her tenure at Pacific Oaks College, Dr. Leggett taught at many local institutes and served in an administrative role as Special Assistant to the President for WASC at the University of Riverside. Prior to working in higher education, Dr. Leggett was a secondary math/science teacher and entered administration to serve school districts as an Assistant Principal, Director of Instruction, and District Literacy Expert, where she secured a $250,000 block grant for distribution to local district schools. She worked collaboratively with English/Language Arts teachers, Coaches and Central ELA instructional support staff to foster a school culture that was conducive to both student and adult learning. Inspired to improve accountability in education, Dr. Leggett worked for the Educational Testing Service and served as a consultant for the American Board for the Certification of Teaching Excellence. At the state Department of Education, she served as a consultant for Teacher Preparation programs (Performance Assessment for California Teachers and California Teacher Performance Assessment) and as a Teacher Performance Assessor in Subject-specific pedagogy, Assessing Learning, Designing Instruction and Culminating Teaching Experience.

Dr. Leggett holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, a Master of Science in Administration, a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology, Technology and Early Childhood Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Living in Southern California, she loves camping and traveling with my family and have a particular love and interest in Space exploration and travel.
