Birgit Monks

Adjunct Faculty and Alumnae Pacific Oaks College, School of Education

Doctor Birgit Monks completed her Bachelor and Masters of Arts degree in Human Development at Pacific Oaks College and her Doctorate in Education at Fielding Graduate University.

Doctor Monks has been adjunct faculty for Human Development and Early Childhood Education since 2013. She also served as faculty advisor for the undergraduate program in the school of education, early childhood education. She has experience working with children and families oversees and in the United States. Her most recent role was a position as director of a state and federally funded preschool and toddler program at a community college campus.

She was also responsible to establish and maintain accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children, NAEYC, for the early childhood program at the community college.

Upon entering Pacific Oaks College, Doctor Monks has developed a passion for social justice and diversity, teaching and educating adult students on implicit bias, multicultural issues, and gender inequality and presented workshops at several conferences, including NAEYC.

Her dissertation, Increasing Capacity - A Grounded Theory Study explains how people discover and overcome deficiencies. People's common goal in increasing capacity is to be free from anxiety, enjoy one's tasks and to work at ease. She is interested in facilitating learning for adults, research focusing on early child development and education, brain functions and patterns of human behaviors
