As an adjunct professor, I come to Pacific Oaks as an educator with 33 years in the field - 4 years as a general educator (Social Studies) and ESL teacher in high school, then sixteen years as a Resource Specialist and Special Day Class teacher in public schools. The last 14 years I have worked as a Transition Specialist, a Program Specialist in a large district where I helped oversee 35,000 students, and most recently as a Principal of two different schools.
In my day job I am the principal of a small private school in South Pasadena with about 160 students from Kinder through age 22. All of our students have an IEP, and we focus on helping previously unsuccessful students start to take control of their education and learn to be successful. In my "other" life, I am a mom of three adults and wife to an awesome man. Our family has been on a crazy life change in the last five years as my husband almost died and then was given the opportunity to completely change his life, dropped 200 pounds, and now has a new company devoted to spiritual, emotional and physical health. My most recent adventure is enrollment in an Ed.D. program which I am about half way through.
I love working with students with special needs, and mentoring people new to the teaching profession - both in general and special education settings.
