R. Marty Freeman

R. Marty Freeman has worked in education for 25 years under varying hats and positions: certified university tutor, Summer Bridge-Upward Bound Program instructor, graduate assistant in philosophy and sociology, Title Five instructor, math and science teacher for primary and secondary grade levels, college educational advisor and self employed private tutor-academic coach. Currently he is actively teaching for SPEF summer school and after school enrichment programs in the fields of: STEM, STEAM, art, and science. His SPEF summer school courses are MakerSpace, Mars Imaging and Rocketry, and Science Olympiad.

He began his educational career in the field of chemical engineering at Cal Poly, Pomona. After three years he changed his major and completed his Bachelors of Science degree in social science as he was working in a nonprofit during this time. He acquired his Masters of Arts in philosophy at Cal State, Los Angeles, which for him was "the savoriness of the mind". Marty enjoys the educational environment of academics and students. He enjoys engaging students where they are at and how the faculties of the mind are actively engaged in critical thought and analysis. He believes that the point of education is to sharpen one's skills and attune the mind.

He treasures his family time, and enjoys hiking, snorkeling, road trips/day trips and traveling with his family. He does fishing, golfing, science investigations and DnD with his son. His son and he are avid archers and now members of the Pasadena Roving Archers. His wife and he are foodies and wine connoisseurs of Rhone valley, Spanish tempranillo and Chilean wines
